Originally conceived as a means of caricaturing cruel landlords, the towering paper mache “higantes” have gone on to reflect the creativity of the people of Angono, long considered by many as the Philippines’ artistic capital. Apart from the artistry, the ingenuity involved in creating the giants out of recycled material helps to promote ecological awareness as well.
